Joseph attended schools in Stockton CA and was in the first high school class to move from Stockton High to Edison High School where he graduated. As all of his brothers were in the Armed Forces, Joe decided to focus on education. He attended San Joaquin Delta College to pursue his education as he was a father to two young daughters. He continued his education at the University of the Pacific to earn his B.A. degree. After an on the job injury, Joe went on to obtain his Certification as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor. He was affectionately known as “Mr. Cucumber” (Someone who has never used drugs). Joe counseled others to sobriety or a healthy way of living, until his health began to fail. Joseph was employed by Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) for over 39 years as a Meter Reader in Stockton, CA and a Customer Service Representative in Oakland, CA until his retirement.
As an avid sports fan, Joe loved baseball (SF Giants), basketball (LA Lakers) until he jumped ship and became a Golden State Warriors fan and we all know how Joe loved the Oakland Raiders. Joe was known as the “King of Dominoes” and loved the game of Chess. Many did not know that Joe was a gifted Photographer, loved cars, loved Jazz, especially Grover Washington Jr. Joe also had a special companion his dog (Paris). She was always at his side she was a valuable health alert for Joe every day. Joseph was introduced to his wife Antoinette on a blind date orchestrated by his brother, Albert and they were happily married on December 31, 1991. Joe was a devoted Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, and Friend.
Joe united with Progressive Community Church under the leadership of Pastor Glenn R. Shields and remained a member until his passing. Joseph departed this life surrounded by his wife, daughters and cousin; but remains in the hearts of those he loved. He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard P. and Delores E. Reed.
Joseph leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife of 28 years, Antoinette, daughters Maxine Reed, Marina Reed, Carmen Reed and Donielle Bolden. Brothers Russell, Gerald (Girtha), Albert, and Walter Reed, Sisters Betty Ozan, Delores Creer, and Florence Moton (George). Seven Grandchildren: Emily Marie, Ezekel Ezell, Tiara Eboni, Max Allen, Montrice Demita, Michael Malik, Mia Antoinette and Royal Lavon aka “Boss Baby” and one Great Grandson Damon Black. He also leaves behind a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws and his best friend, Michael Stevens of Indianapolis, Indiana and many others.
Joe is going to be missed by all that he came in contact with, as he was a positive influence to all.
