Julia (Julie) Rebecca MacLeod Marleau, age 58, devoted wife, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, niece, cousin and friend died peacefully in her home on Sunday, September 27th surrounded by her family. Julie’s passing followed a valiant two-year battle against pancreatic cancer. Her strength, dignity, and willingness to fight has set a standard for all who knew her and will live on as an example her loved ones will follow as they face life’s challenges. Her friends and family are humbled by her journey. True to her nature, Julie expressed love and gratitude to her sons, husband, friends, family, and doctors for walking with her and never leaving her side.
Julie was born June 22nd, 1962 in San Jose, California and was preceded in death by her parents the late Lindley B. and Adrienne (nee Edge) Thomas. Julie attended Lincoln High School and went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. She worked for many Stockton area businesses and health care companies throughout her long career including Dameron Hospital, and Sacramento Heart Cardiology. Julie was a much-loved and highly respected co-worker and boss. Her career was her passion and having to leave her position and beloved staff at Lodi Memorial Hospital as Revenue Cycle Manager for Cerner Corporation was a bitter disappointment.
Julie was blessed with two beautiful sons, Brian Douglas MacLeod and Michael Ian MacLeod from her first marriage. She prided herself in providing a loving and supportive home for her sons as well as her late mother, Adrienne. She had a mother’s heart and always found time to support and encourage her children’s friends as well as the many others who found their way into her life. Family holidays, birthdays and special occasions, both happy and sad, were a joy for her to host. Her home was a haven of love, laughter and acceptance for all who were fortunate enough to spend time there.
Julie’s life was made complete in 2004 when she married Stephen Marleau. Together, they enjoyed watching the boys succeed in school and sports and celebrated as they each built wonderful lives for themselves. In recent years, Julie and Stephen enjoyed life as empty nesters and spent time pursuing their many shared interests. She loved to travel and enjoyed exploring historic California towns with Stephen and her sister-in-law Liz Locke. Like her mother, Julie considered her beloved Pacific Grove to be heaven on Earth. In their spare time, Stephen joined Julie in antiquing, gardening, and rescuing cats including her blind kittens, Jacks and Gonzo.
Often referred to as the “heart and soul” of her family, Julie holds a very special place in the lives of many loved ones across generations. Julie is survived by her loving husband Stephen Marleau, Stockton, beloved sons: Brian Douglas (Heather) MacLeod and Michael Ian MacLeod, Stockton; cherished granddaughters: Julianne Adrienne MacLeod and Jameson Mary MacLeod, Stockton; sister Dana Elizabeth (Mrs. Blair) Sanderson, Las Vegas, NV; brother Matthew David (Lindsey Pedersen) Thomas, Chandler, AZ; nieces Katherine Elizabeth Sanderson, Orlando, FL and Laura Blair Sanderson, Las Vegas, NV, Sophia Grace Thomas and Alex Matthew Thomas, Chandler, AZ; beloved aunt Robin M.
