

Leroy Wright was born on June 30, 1936 in Osceola, Arkansas to the late Willie Wright & Minnie Benson. Leroy attended school in Arkansas. In his early 20's he became a professional boxer and stayed with it until he made the decision to move to California in the mid 50's. He was first employed at Canepas Car Wash. In 1977 he met and fell in love with his wife of 37 years, Diane Wright. To this union one child was born, LaTiea. He stayed with Canepas until he started working for Community Towel & Linen Service as an engineer. In 1988 Leroy united with God's Throne Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. Zacchaeus Dunham Sr. Until 2011 when Dr. Timothy J. Dunham I was appointed as Pastor. During his membership he worked in several different departments until his health began to fail including; The Male Chorus, The Choir, Kitchen/ Set- Up Committee, Usher Board and his favorite pass time of ensuring that the church stay clean at all times. If you ever came in looking for him, just listen for the sound of his whistle and you would know where he was. After working with Community Towel and Linen Service for 26 years, the business closed down. Leroy was then employed with Grief Brothers Lumber yard until he retired in 1998. In Leroy's pass time he enjoyed watching wrestling, boxing, actions movies, snacking, and most of all he LOVED the Lord. Leroy leaves to cherish his memories; his wife Diane Wright, his daughters; LaCreisha Brown and LaTiea Weaver. Step daughters; Lenee Lewis and Verlina Garner. Son-in-laws; Leon Lewis and Brandon Weaver. Two grandsons; Elijah Brown and Adail Brown-Thrower. Mother-in-law; Sarah Williams. Four sisters; Juanita Miller, Lilly Bell Conley, Minnie Mae Johnson all of Stockton, CA and Bertha Mae Rodgers of Ridgeley, TN. Two brothers; James Benson of Oakland, CA and Robert Hopewell of Sacramento, CA. One sister-in-law; Katie Johnson of Oakland, CA. Seven very close personal friends; Tony Nelson Sr., Robert Lewis Sr., John Hall Sr., Nesba Holland, Larry Mack, Leo Jasper and Sterling Branson. A host of nieces, nephews, friends and his entire God's Throne Baptist Church family. His love, smile, and laughter will be missed.
