Lupe Torres-Arroyo died peacefully on August 16, 2019 in Stockton, CA at the age of 87 surrounded by her loving family and friends. Lupe is survived by her children Mary M. Torres, Gilbert A. Trejo, Gregory Trejo, David Trejo all of Stockton, CA and JoAnn Trejo of San Diego, CA and daughter-in-laws Victoria Trejo, Libby Montagne and Becky Soria. She is also survived by her brother Adrian Barraza, 19 nephews and nieces, 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Teodoro Arroyo, her mother Maria Villa Torres, her father Seferino Torres, her brothers John Torres and Joe Torres, her sisters Adelaida Villa and Tillie Reyes, and her nephews John Zavala and Joseph Torres.
Lupe was born on July 11, 1932 in King City, CA. She moved with her family to Stockton, CA at an early age and attended Fair Oaks Elementary School and Edison High School. She worked at the University of the Pacific in custodial services until retirement and then as a concierge for Cort Companies at the Cort Tower. Lupe was a devout Catholic, she received her sacraments of initiation at St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church. She was also a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church, Cathedral of the Annunciation and the Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Stockton, CA.
Lupe is remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, godmother and best friend. She was a kind and caring person with a wonderful sense of humor. She was easy going, fun to be around, full of life and laughter, festive and enjoyed cooking especially for family. Lupe loved music and Mariachi and she loved to dance – ranchera, polka, cumbia and the Jitterbug. She also loved to travel and shop. She visited the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City, and the towns of Puebla and Taxco in Mexico. She traveled to North Carolina, New York City and Washington, DC and often to San Diego and Tijuana, Mexico. Lupe’s soul and spirt has touched all of our lives and will empower our life-long journeys.
