Mary Lucille Hoagland

Our Mother, Mary Lucille Barr Hoagland died of natural causes on September 25, 2024 in Stockton, California. Lucille was born in Prescott, Arizona on July 5, 1923, and was raised in Tucson, Arizona where she attended local schools. During the war, Lucille interrupted her studies at the University of Arizona, Tucson, to work for Consolidated Aircraft as a draftsman. After the war, she and sister were vacationing in La Jolla, California where she met the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Hoagland. She and Dick were married after a two week courtship. Due to Dick's career as a civil engineer, they lived in various cities in California, Oregon, & Illinois, then overseas in Pakistan, Iran, Indonesia, and Bangladesh. After Dick retired, they moved to Oregon. They were married until Dick died in 2000. Lucille later returned to California to be near her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dick Hoagland, parents, Hammond and Margaret Barr, sisters Marjorie Barr and Theodosia Foley, son-in-law, Chuck Kelley, and nephew, John Barr Jr. She is survived by her brother, John Barr, sister, Caroline Barr, children, Cathy Kelley, Richard (Lola) Hoagland, Mike (Judy) Hoagland, Peggy (Fred) Zimmermann, Libby (Marty) Sharpe, Theo Hoppers, Chuck (Lynn) Hoagland, six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, her nephew, Jack Hoagland and four nieces.

She was buried with Dick Hoagland on Monday, October 21, 2024 at Belcrest Cemetery in Salem, Oregon. Charles and Lynn Hoagland attended the burial to represent the family. The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.
