Mary Lillian “Lily” Torres, 81 years old. Born July 28, 1937 in Granada, Colorado. Passed away November 25, 2018 in Stockton, CA. Loving wife of 59 years and survived by her husband John H. Torres of Stockton. Dedicated mother to John A. Torres of Oakland, Sylvia Vargas and David Torres of Stockton. Mother-in-law to David Vargas and Julie Torres. Devoted sister to Tony Avila Jr. of Modesto and Esperanza Ballesteroz of Stockton. Loving grandmother to John K. Torres of Chicago, Nick and Jacob Vargas; David, Sophia and Noah Torres; Zack Sapp of Charleston, S.C. and Paul Alcaraz of French Camp. Mary, known as Lily to her friends and family, was born in Granada, Colorado in 1937 and moved to California with her family when she was 4 years old and settled in French Camp. She is a graduate of Edison High School and Stockton College. Always an advocate of education and a life-long learner, Lily received her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education at the age of 62 from Humphreys College. Lily spent much of her career guiding young minds as the Director of Creative Child Care Preschool in Stockton. She also worked as a bilingual aid for the Stockton Unified School District. Lily loved spending time with her grandchildren and most days you would find her tending to her garden, where she would find her inner peace. Lily was a member of the Cathedral of the Annunciation Catholic Parish in Stockton, CA.
DeYoung Memorial Chapel is honored to serve the Torres family. A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2018 from 3-6pm with a Rosary at 6pm at DeYoung Memorial Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Cathedral of the Annunciation on Friday, December 7, 2018 at 11am.
