Michael J. Torres

June 10, 1949July 21, 2019

Michael Jose Torres passed away at the age of 70 on July 21, 2019. He was born in French Camp, CA . He graduated from Edison High School in 1967 and attended Delta College where he studied electrical engineering. He was a Navy veteran. He married his college sweetheart Sandra K. Farley, they were married for 32 years until her death in 2005. He married the new light of his life Sandra Canary in 2016. During his life, he worked at San Joaquin County for 36 years. He was also a private contractor. He was an active member and volunteered extensively at St. Luke Church, he was a 3rd degree knight with Knights of Columbus. He was dedicated to and proudly served as Administrator of Stockton Moose Lodge #391. As a boy he was an avid reader, loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, horseback riding, swimming, and loved going to church. As a young man he continued going to church and made God an anchor in his life. He loved hiking, especially at Pinecrest Lake. Not able to just sit around, he would take walks as often as he could. Mike loved to dance and would even dance alone at times. He loved and was very knowledgeable about world history. He enjoyed playing bocce at the Italian Athletic Club and made many friends there. He liked telling jokes, some bad, some funny. He had a contractor's license and was a good handyman. He would buy properties to remodel and rent them out. Besides his love of God, Mike loved his family with a passion. He was a hands-on grandpa and loved spending time with his grandkids. He was happy to be the taxi service taking grandkids to school, picking them up from school, to doctor appointments, shopping and various activities. He never missed a softball game when Shiloh and Kaya played and would go see Sara play her tuba. He was so proud of all his grandkids. To say Mike loved to travel is an understatement. He visited many countries. The most recent trip took 41 days and covered 9 countries. He recently said that in his life he has done everything he wanted to do and has seen everything he wanted to see. He would say often and marvel at how God had blessed him in his life. He is survived by his current wife Sandra Canary, his mother June Torres, sister Diana and her husband Berton Heald, his children Cynthia K. Torres, Marie and her husband Gabe McMurtry, and Susan Torres, stepchildren Brian and Tonya Durham, grandchildren Levi, Sara, David, Shiloh, Kaya and Justin as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and God children.

It is with such sadness to have to say good by on this earth to such a wonderful human being, who I only knew for a short time as the manager at the Moose Lodge, who never had a bad word to say about anyone and who was supportive of those who wanted to contribute something positive. I have to say that Michael made this world a better place and helped people realize their potential when ever he possible could. He was a bright light in my life and I am grateful for knowing Mike even for such a short time. My deepest condolences to Sandra and the family.
