Olga Flora Viglienzone was born on July 27, 1925 as the oldest child of Mary Podesta and Angelo Tarditi who immigrated from the Ligurian region of Genoa, Italy in the early 1900’s. They made their way west to San Francisco where they met and eventually married. Olga was born in San Bruno.
Olga’s parents bought their first ranch in Linden, California. Upon entering school Olga did not yet know how to speak English, only Italian was spoken at home. She attended school in Linden including Linden High School. She met her first husband, Herk Viglienzone, another young man of Genovese immigrants who were farmers in the Escalon area of Stockton. They married in 1942 and settled in El Cerrito, CA where they bought their first home and Herk took a position as a welding instructor in the Alameda shipyards. In 1944 Olga and Herk decided to return to Stockton where they bought a ranch and returned to their roots of farming.
In the early 60’s as a single mom of 2, while working in a department store she also attended classes in the evenings at Humphreys College to learn bookkeeping..
She married Amerigo Viglienzone in the mid-60’s. For several years she was employed as an accounting exec for an oil distribution company. Olga then had a long history with several companies in the insurance industry. Eventually she was the department manager in charge of all the accounting. She had such a strong work ethic and a lot of stamina. Somehow she found time to work in her garden, growing the most- beautiful flowers. She retired at age 75 and did get to go abroad to Italy for her first time with her children in 2001. It was a joyous time meeting her extended Italian family.
Olga was preceded in death by her brother Rudy Tarditi and sister Angie Cornwell. She is survived by her daughter Jeannie Viglienzone Kotoff of San Rafael, CA and her son Randy (Mary) and stepchildren John, Bill(Susan), Russell, and Susan(Dave)Farr, all of Stockton. Her grandchildren adored their Nonie. They are Briana (Steve), Nicole, Sara (Simon), Nino, Amerigo, Josh, Nick, Diana, Jake, Ellie, Scott and Eric. There are now numerous great-grandchildren but with Olga’s long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, unfortunately they did not have the joy of ever knowing her and her great love as their parents did. Olga leaves a legacy of so many who respected, loved and admired her. She passed away June 7, 2016.
