Ralph Hernandez Sr., born on November 18, 1941, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving wife and family on March 21, 2024. He was a heavy equipment mechanic for the Dept. of Defense at Rough and Ready Island for 30 years. He graduated in 1962 as a commissioned officer from the United States Army Artillery and Missile School at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He went on to serve 28 years in the Reserves and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.
He was a natural leader not only in the military but also at work, at home, at church and in the community. He served on the Board of Directors for the credit union on base, he led Boy Scout Troop #123 at St George Church, he was a Cursillista in the Cursillo Movement, and a third-degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus at St. George Parish. He was jack of many trades and always helped family and friends with home projects. He introduced his children to many trades and taught them to be hard working and charitable. He enjoyed restoring old cars, traveling on many day trips, camping, fishing and spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his father Florentino Hernandez, parents Ebelia and Merced Juarez Sr., brother Merced Jr., and sister Frances.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Victoria Hernandez, his five children- Ralph, Diane, Carl, Michael and Teresa, his nine grandchildren, his six great grandchildren, his seven siblings, and his numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
He will be missed dearly but will live forever in the hearts of many.
