

Raymond was born on March 13, 1936, to Ray Silvas Sr. and Alma Eakes. He graduated from Saint Mary’s High School in 1954 and subsequently earned a basketball scholarship to the University of Oregon. In November 1956, he married Judith Hahn.
Raymond dedicated many years of service as a longshoreman at the Port of Stockton, continuing his work until the age of 87. His strong work ethic and commitment to his peers were a source of pride throughout his life.
Affectionately known as “Papa” to many, Raymond was a loving grandfather to eight grandchildren and a proud great-grandfather to eleven. He treasured time spent with his family and friends and was well known for sharing stories and humor that brought joy to those around him.
Among his greatest pleasures was stream fishing in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. He spent many cherished weekends along the East Carson River in the company of family and friends.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 3, at 2:00 p.m., followed by the Rosary at 5:30 p.m., at DeYoung Memorial Chapel, 601 N. California Street, Stockton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 4, at 12:00 p.m., at the Cathedral of the Annunciation, 400 W. Rose Street, Stockton. All are welcome to attend.
