Richard Benitez, 88, passed away on May 20, 2026, leaving behind family and friends who loved him deeply and will forever cherish the memories they shared. Born in French Camp, California, in 1938 to Ildefonso Benitez and Lucille Lusiani, Richard lived a life marked by kindness, laughter, music, and devotion to family. He had a way of making people feel comfortable and cared for, often bringing a smile to those around him with his quick wit, easygoing spirit, and big personality. Whether he was playing music, singing, spending a day on the golf course, watching sports, fishing, or simply enjoying time with family, he found joy in life's simple pleasures and in the people who meant the most to him. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, cousin, and uncle who took great pride in the family he helped build and the relationships he nurtured over the years.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Josephine Benitez of Sacramento; his sons, Richard Benitez (Lori) and Derek Benitez (Crissy) of Sacramento; and his daughter, Debra Benitez (Rodney) of Jackson. He also leaves behind his treasured grandchildren, Bryce Giuffra (Kate) of El Dorado Hills, Natalee Cooks (Worth), Ashlee Benitez, Megan Anderson (Dontay) all of Stockton, and Tiffany Benitez of Sacramento, along with 15 great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life; and his two siblings Lillian Cavanaugh (Steve) of Stockton, and Benita Young (Roland) of Oakdale. He was preceded in death by his father, Ildefonso Benitez (1960); mother, Lucille Isbell Lusiani (2004); and siblings LeRoy Benitez (2008); Larry Benitez (2003); Laura Benitez (2017); Joyce Seibel (2022); and Betty Holt Erickson (2023).
While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in the memories he left with us, the lessons he taught through his warm heart and generous spirit, and the unconditional love he shared so freely. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
We will miss his laughter, his stories, and the steady love he brought to our lives every day.
