

Robert “Bob” Hugh McCrary, 90, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 in Stockton at Laurel Pointe Memory Care at O’Connor Woods. He was born in Stockton on September 17, 1926 and lived here most of his life. He attended local schools before enlisting in the Army in 1945. He worked with his father at McCrary’s Hardware prior to his career at San Joaquin County Public Works. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 37 years, Helen Kessel McCrary, his mother Irma Harris McCrary and his father Vernon McCrary. He is survived by his beloved children by a previous marriage Byron Lance McCrary of Stockton California and Margo McCrary-Davis (spouse Tori Lee Davis) of Ashland, Oregon. While raising his two children as a single parent, Bob was an avid photographer and painter. He taught himself classical guitar and listened to Segovia to unwind. To his children he taught compassion, social justice, kindness, independence and the love of reading and music. Bob and Helen shared a passion for the arts and spent many weeks each year at their condo at San Francisco Opera House Plaza to attend theatre, foreign films, opera, symphony, jazz and chamber music. Time with their friends and attending the Stockton Symphony or UOP venues were highlights of their life and love in Stockton. There will be no formal services per his request.
