Salvador Henry Mena, of Stockton, California, passed away peacefully at his home on August 29, 2026, surrounded by family who loved him dearly. Born on October 13, 1935, in Gallup, New Mexico, Salvador lived a remarkable 90 years, leaving behind a legacy built on hard work, family, loyalty, and love.
On August 6, 1955, at just 20 years old, Salvador married the love of his life, Maria Mena. Together, they shared an extraordinary 71 years of marriage—a lifetime filled with love, family, memories, and life's many joys and challenges, all faced side by side
Salvador was a hardworking man who believed in doing things the right way and standing by his word. He dedicated more than 55 years of his life to Sierra Lumber. He began his career as a saw cutter, worked his way up to supervisor, and eventually became a plant manager. His career was a true reflection of his strong work ethic, determination, and dedication. He earned the respect of those around him through years of hard work and commitment.
At just 17 years old, Salvador joined the National Guard Reserve.
He was also a proud member of the Stockton Drum and Bugle Corps for 9 years.
But to his family, Salvador was so much more than his career and accomplishments.
He was the kind of man who would shake your hand, give you his word, and mean it. He was kindhearted, hardworking, fun-loving, and always knew how to have a good time. He loved going to the casino, watching football, and was a proud Raiders fan. He enjoyed watching old black-and-white cowboy shows, and on the weekends, you could often find him outside with a beer in his hand, music playing, and keeping himself busy with whatever needed to be done.
And if you knew Salvador, you probably heard him say his favorite phrase more than once: “Son of a bitch.” It was simply part of who he was—and his family will undoubtedly smile every time they remember him saying it.
As the years went by, Salvador loved sitting down and sharing stories about his younger days. He would talk about smoking cigarettes, getting into a little trouble, and reminiscing about how much things used to cost back in his day. Those stories became little pieces of family history—memories that will now be carried forward by the generations who loved listening to him tell them.
Salvador had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren. He was known to quietly slip them some money, making sure they had a little extra in their pockets. He loved his family deeply and showed that love in the simple, sometimes unexpected ways that meant the most.
And nobody better mess with his dogs. His dogs weren't just pets—they were his babies. He loved them fiercely, and they were an important part of his life.
Salvador is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Maria Mena; his children, Ernest, Matthew, and Aaron; his 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, and his brother, Ernest Mena. He was preceded in death by his 4 sisters, Helen, Genevieve, Tilly, and Sally. He leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who were blessed to know and love him and will forever cherish his memory.
Salvador Henry Mena was truly one of a kind. He could make you laugh, draw you into a story, surprise you with a thoughtful gesture, and leave you with a memory you would carry forever. He lived with strength, generosity.
They just don't raise men like him anymore.
His family will forever carry his stories, his laughter, his sayings, his stubbornness, his kindness, and the countless lessons he left behind. Though he may no longer be sitting outside listening to music, watching football, cheering for the Raiders, or telling stories about the old days, his presence will remain in every generation that carries his name and remembers his love.
Rest peacefully, Dad, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, and Grandpa. You will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
