Sandi Abrahamson passed quietly away after a long illness on May 16, 2018 at the age of 77 in the company of a friend. She is survived by numerous friends and former students. Her parents, Walter E. Abrahamson and Grace E. Babcock Abrahamson, preceded her in death. She was born in San Francisco, CA May 19, 1940. She was raised in Eureka, CA, where she attending Worthington Elementary School, Eureka Junior High School, and Eureka High School. She received her Bachelors of Arts degree from Humboldt State in June 1962. Sandi was a physical education teacher, badminton coach, and later, athletic director at Edison High until she retired in 2000. Stockton Unified School District named the award given to its top female sports coach after Miss Abrahamson. (Affectionately called the "Miss A" by her students.) In 1967 Sandi received the Outstanding Coachmanship award to the 1967-1968 Cross Country Team. She received Sac-San Joaquin Section Athletic Director of the Year in 1997-98. In 2000 she received the Golden Key Award from the Stockton Teachers Association. In October 2010, Sandi was inducted into the first Sac-San Joaquin Hall of Fame.
Those closest to Sandi would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and caregivers at St. Joseph's Hospital, Plymouth Square, Lincoln Square, and Rio Las Palmas for their efforts and care of Sandi during her last months.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2018 at DeYoung Memorial Chapel on California Street. Following the Memorial Service, refreshments will be served. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to donate to Sandi's favorite local charity, The Delta Humane Society.
