It's with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Socorro Hernandez Garcia aka: Mama Chango our loving, and cherished mother. Socorro was born on June 27, 1937, in Cuidad Juarez, Chih. to Pablo & Hermelinda Hernandez. She was the oldest of 9 siblings, 4 brothers and 5 sisters. She excelled in school and was able to complete high school.
In 1953 she met our dad Jose and was married. She had her first living child Maria Elena (Mary), then David. Lived in El Paso where she worked at her first job in a bakery, and they decided to move and follow our Uncle Tony to Bakersfield where she had Carlos and Albert. In 1966 they decided to again follow Uncle Tony and we ended up in Stockton where our grandmother lived. She then surprised us all by having our baby brother Fabian. She worked at Cortopassi Farms for some years then ended up in Del Monte Cannery. She continued working and landed a job at Diamond of California where she worked for 30 years until she was sent home March 31, 2020 due to COVID-19.
Socorro loved her family very much. She loved to go to the gym. Everyone at In Shape knew her as the Zumba Queen. I honestly believe that her exercising helped her stay active as long as she did.
She enjoyed going to lunch with her friends from work and going to the movies with Melanie her friend from work. These workmates were very special and dear to her. I can attest to that because after she Stopped working they would still text her just to check on her. She loved sports, her favorite teams the San Francisco 49ers and her San Francisco Giants. She enjoyed many fan fests with her son in law and many games!
Socorro will be remembered for making the best homemade tamales and her tortillas. She always said she didn't like to cook but her food was the best! She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, always ready and willing to lend a hand.
Socorro had a total of 16 grandchildren, and 36 great grandchildren. She also enjoyed watching her novelas, all the ones she couldn't watch because she worked! She even started studying the Bible, something she said she felt she was too old but found out real quick there's no age limit in getting to know and serve God.
Socorro was proceeded in death by her husband Jose Garcia, her son David Garcia and her son Albert Garcia. She leaves behind her children Mary (Robert), Carlos (Julie), Fabian (Tina); Her grandchildren, Willie Romero Jr., Denise Colon, Marcus Colon, Robert Colon Jr., Jonathan Colon, David Garcia Jr., Monica Garcia-Meza, Justin Garcia, Alyssa Garcia, Andrea Garcia, Erica Garcia, Joseph Garcia, Fabian Richard Garcia, Celina Garcia, Deziree Garcia, Anthony Rodriguez; Her 36 great grandchildren, her siblings Roberto, Alicia and Yolanda, many nieces and nephews. A loving Aunt, Cousin, Friend and sister to many.
The family would like to thank all those for their prayers, comforting condolences, and support during this painful time.
In closing this isn't goodbye mama, we will be waiting to welcome you back when the time comes.
