Eusebia “Susie” Alcantara, 76, of Stockton, CA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 in a local hospital. She was born December 16, 1938 in San Sebastian, San Vicente, Ilocos Sur, Phillipines to the late Damaso and Josefa Alcantara.
In 1962, she arrived in the United States and settled in Stockton, CA. Susie decided to enroll into the Stockton Adult School to obtain her High School Diploma in 1963, and obtained her Diploma in 1965. She soon started working at Tillie Lewis Foods in 1965. In 1980 she took on a second job at Cal Cedar. In 1982 she made the decision to work at Cal Cedar and left Tillie Lewis Foods. She later retired from Cal Cedar on June 30, 1999 after 34 years of hard work. Susie was a member of Teamsters Local 439. Susie’s main focus in life was to work very hard to support her two beautiful daughters.
She leaves behind her children Frieda Rugnao and Maria Rugnao of Stockton. Siblings, Benny Alcantara (Senen), Meddie Alcantara (Cherry) and Precy Carbonell (Ludovico) all from Stockton. She is preceded in death by siblings, Maria Rosales, Milagros Alcantara and Celestino Alcantara. She is also survived by her Sister-in-law, Josefina Alcantara of Hawaii, many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Susie was the most humble, kind, and loving person you will ever meet. The word “NO” did not exist in her vocabulary. She always put people's needs first before her own. Even when she had no money to give, she would somehow find a way to help a friend, family or even a stranger. Susie always had a smile on her face and never had anything negative to say on any situation or to anyone. Her vivacious personality was a magnet to many people. Susie had many friends and enjoyed spending time with them. Bowling was her favorite thing to do with her friends. She loved to garden and treasure her plants. She treated her plants like her babies and always made sure they were well taken care of. Her green thumb shows through all her beautiful plants. When she is not out socializing with her many friends, you can find her in the garden cultivating her plants, vegetables and fruit trees. After her retirement, she did a lot of traveling across the country and internationally with her group of friends. When she and her friends were not traveling, they were spending their spare time playing cards, having a friendly game of Rummy or Mahjong, reminiscing, telling jokes and just plain catching up with their daily activities.
Susie's past time also included her regular trips to the Casinos. If you didn't see her around town, she was either at Jackson Rancheria, Black Oak or Red Hawk. She could spend hours and hours playing at her favorite slot machines. Win or lose, she was happy and content the minute she stepped into a Casino. She said “ the casino takes my pains and worries away”.
Susie lived a fulfilling life with no regrets. She worked hard all her life but enjoyed each moment because she was always surrounded by family and friends. Even during her bad times and when she became a single parent, Susie made everything possible and made sure her twin daughters, Maria and Frieda, had what they needed to get through life. Her girls were her life.
Susie suffered from medical complications and grew sicker in the last 5 years. She put out a great fight and fought hard until the end. She grew tired and God saw she was ready to rest in his kingdom. Rest in peace, Susie.
