Theresa Altonia Holmes was born in LaRue Texas on October 2, 1937 to Chilton E. Holmes and Willie Louise Warren Holmes. Theresa was the first born of five children. She accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member at St. Paul A.M.E. church in Dallas, Texas where she served in the choir and handmaiden ministries for 10 years.
She received her education in the Dallas Independent School District. Theresa married H.P. Campbell; this union produced 1 child, Carolyn.
Theresa apprenticed as a beautician and obtained a cosmetology license in Dallas TX. She moved to Oakland, California in 1960 started working at the Oakland Army Base for Nathaniel Grogan as part of the maintenance crew. A short time later Theresa married Nathaniel Grogan this union produced 3 children, Pamela, Christopher, and LaShonda.
Theresa worked for 40 years as a nursing assistant for various nursing homes in the Bay Area. Theresa enjoyed making theme pillows and selling them at various craft fairs. She also enjoyed baking, shopping, watching Jeopardy, the Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, reading her Bible and completing puzzle books.
Much later in life she became a member of the LDS church and remained a member until her passing.
Theresa was preceded in death by her father and mother, Chilton E. Holmes and Willie Louise Holmes; Sisters Willie ford, & Felteen Sims, brothers Talmadge Tyree Holmes and Alfred Holmes.
She leaves to cherish her memories daughters Carolyn V. Campbell, Pamela M. Grogan, LaShonda M. Baker, and son Christopher D. Grogan and five grandchildren; Cecil P. Henderson III, Dashon C. Harris, Javon N. Harris, Natalia C. Grogan, and Juliana N. Grogan.
