Reverend Ted Beck Boland, 80, of Lawrenceville, GA entered into God’s care on August 8, 2011. He was surrounded by his family and closest loved ones. Ted was born in Columbia, South Carolina June 14, 1931, the son of the late Claud Reynolds Boland and Grace Beck Boland. After attending Columbia High School, Ted joined the US Navy, serving stateside in the early 50’s. He later continued his education at Furman University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as pastor of churches in South Carolina, Indiana, Leitchfield Kentucky, and McRae Georgia before serving 39 years at Moreland Avenue Baptist Church, Atlanta. During that time, he received a DMin degree from Luther Rice Seminary. He retired from MABC in September 2007. Ted’s model and inspiration encouraged numerous individuals who were later called into ministry roles. Ted served as a Board member of the Georgia Baptist Foundation, Moderator of the Atlanta Baptist Association, and several other roles as a devoted Baptist minister. Ted’s deep passion for his Lord and his family was evident, as was his interest in our country’s history, college football (Go Gamecocks!), great music and avid reading. He traveled to the Holy Land, Israel and surrounding countries, Europe, Puerto Rico, Canada and the majority of our 50 states. He at one time had a weekly Sunday morning television spot on Channel 46, ran the Peachtree Road Race many years in a row, and loved to tell stories about his three children. He was filled with pride and adoration for his grandchildren and bent many an ear with precious tales of them. He drew people to him with his gentle conversations and his laid-back manner, yet the family has no doubt he made a tremendous grand entrance into Heaven, grateful to finally experience what he knew God had promised him! Ted was preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly Martin Boland; sister, Virginia Shealy of Columbia, SC; and granddaughter Natalie Davies of Gainesville, GA. His is survived by his wife, Jeri Boland of Lawrenceville, GA; daughter Donna Underwood and husband Thomas of Tucker, GA; daughter Julia Davies and husband Stephen of Gainesville, GA; son Claud Scott Boland and wife Lorraine, of Sandy, UT; granddaughters Virginia Underwood, Stephanie Davies and Heather Boland; grandsons Garrett Boland and Christopher Underwood; nephew Claude Alton Shealy and wife Gail of Columbia, SC; great nieces and great-nephew; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jeff and Nancy Roesch of Decatur, GA; and his feline buddy and sidekick JujuBe.
