Theodore T.J. Joseph Surowiec

Theodore Joseph (T.J.) Surowiec, age 89 of Lilburn, GA, passed away November 1, 2010. He was preceded in death by his Sister, Felecia Delesky and is survived by his Wife, Reba E. Johnson Surowiec; Son, Joseph T. and Bonnie Surowiec of Stone Mountain; Daughter Janet E. and Drew Murray of Highlands, N.J; Grandson, Lt. USN Jason T. and Leslie Surowiec of Jacksonville, FL; Granddaughter, Anna Claire Surowiec of Stone Mountain, GA; Grandson, Brandon and Jill Murray of NJ, and Great Grandson, Tyler A. Surowiec of Jacksonville, FL.

A decorated WWII veteran wounded in combat while serving in the U.S. Army at the Battle of Normandy, he was a member of the Army’s 747th Tank Battalion. Corporal Surowiec and his crew were in action inside their tank when the tank was hit and exploded. Severely injured, only Corporal Surowiec and one other member of his crew survived the explosion and resulting fire.

Mr. Surowiec was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lilburn, GA, and a former member of Corinth Baptist Church, Loganville, GA.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 4, at 1:00 PM at Horis A. Ward Stone Mountain Chapel, with Rev. Rob Burdette officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at North Atlanta Memorial Park, 5188 Winters Chapel Rd, Doraville, GA 30042. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the chapel.
