It is with heavy hearts that the family of Del Gordey announce her passing at the age of 78. Del left us unexpectedly after facing sudden respiratory health challenges with quiet strength and grace.
Del was born on her parents’ farm in Metiskow, Alberta, the eighth of thirteen children. When she was six, the family relocated to a farm near Youngstown, Alberta. With so many children, the local population grew enough to warrant the opening of a one-room schoolhouse called New Bliss, where Del completed Grades 1 through 9.
At 17, Del left home to pursue a career in nursing in Edmonton. After graduating, she worked at both the University of Alberta Hospital and St. Joseph’s Hospital.
She married Marshall Gordey just before her 18th birthday, a union that required her parents’ signature. Together, they raised three sons—Andy, Danny, and Ash—whom they considered their greatest accomplishments.
The family’s first home was purchased in Stony Plain, where their children were raised. In 1990, Del moved to Spruce Grove, where she continued to build a life surrounded by family and friends.
Del is lovingly remembered by her sons: Andrew (Tammy), Danny and Ash (Juliet); her four grandchildren: Mia, Sofie, Apollo and Astra as well as numerous other family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband Marshall in 1983.
A Celebration of Life will he held Friday, September 12, 2025 at 12PM, at the Stony Plain United Church, 5012 51 Ave, Stony Plain, with a luncheon to follow at Heritage Park in the Spruce Grove Hall.
