Dora was born March 27, 1924 to Jacob and Maria Baron in Stony Plain, Alberta, the second child of four children. On December 2, 1947, Dora married the love of her life, Walter Goerz. Their union was blessed with five children. She and Walter operated a family farm, just north of Stony Plain. They resided there until 2000 when they retired to the town of Stony Plain.
Dora was known for her love of people, showing hospitality to many friends and family and even to strangers who stopped by the farm looking for directions. She loved to cook and her family enjoyed many meals of perogies, rice rolls, and apple strudel. Her laughter and vibrant spirit were a blessing to many.
Dora delighted in being in God’s house and was a lifelong member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Stony Plain. She also attended St. Matthew Lutheran School. She was actively involved in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League for many years.
In her retirement she enjoyed travelling with her husband Walter, fishing, as well as enjoying their cabin at Lake Isle for over 30 years.
Dora is survived by her children Ron (Jeanette), Marilyn, Don (Lucy), Glenn, and Stan (Laura) as well as by 27 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
The family wishes to thank the staff and doctors of Good Samaritan Care Centre and Westview Hospital as well as the pastors and church family of St. Matthew Lutheran Church for their support and care of Dora.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Stony Plain.
