It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family announce the passing of our amazing brother, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather. Glenn passed peacefully at his home, Three Robins, in Stony Plain after fighting a courageous battle with kidney and liver failure. Glenn was surrounded by members of his family at the time of his passing.
Glenn was predeceased by his loving wife Pat Cartie; his parents Tom and Rose Callihoo; his sisters Joyce (Dan) Haller and Shirley (Dave) Jones.
Glenn leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter Dayle (Chris); his sons Emile (Jeanette), Marcel (Debbie) and Larry (Marlene); step-daughters Diane (Marvin) Reid and Sandy (Nelson) Harrington; his step-son Gerald (Dawn) Cartie; sister Beryl (Stephen) Pugh as well as several grandchildren, cousins, relatives and friends.
Glenn was successful at many jobs in his career, most notably with the CN railway. He then joined Alcan in Kitimat, BC where he spent the next 30+ years of his life. After retirement Glenn and Pat moved back to Alberta to be closer to their roots in Spruce Grove and for Glenn, more recently in Stony Plain.
Glenn was granted a gift of life which he lived to the max. He loved the outdoors, camping and fishing with family members and friends. He was always ready to gear up and hit the road in a moments notice. Glenn and Pat travelled Canada coast to coast including the north, the United States and Mexico. Most of the time travelling was spent with family members and Glenn's cousins.
Glenn also enjoyed playing cards; he rarely missed a supper, special celebration or sitting by the fire with family and cousins enjoying a beer or two. Cruising to the casino with his sister Beryl and having supper was a special treat for the both of them. Oh yes, Glenn cheered on his BC Lions football team and Canucks hockey team. The victory was especially sweet when they beat the Oilers and Elks.
Glenn enjoyed eating breakfast out at the Sunset Grill in Spruce Grove, Urban 28 Kitchen and Power Plant Grill in Stony Plain. He knew all the servers by name and they knew him well, always having his table ready for a visit and a meal. He didn't need a menu, as they knew what he wanted! Glenn never took their friendship or valued service for granted. He appreciated everything they did for him.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 16th at 11AM, at the Heritage Park Pavillion, 5100 41 Avenue, Stony Plain. After the service a lunch will be served, followed by an interment at the Calahoo Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations are graciously accepted by the Kidney Foundation, 880 - 5160 Decarie Boulevard, Montreal, Quebec, H3X 2H9.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ParklandFuneralServices.com for the Callihoo family.
