She was born June 14, 1952 , in Bishops Falls, Newfoundland, a daughter of the late Frank and Ruby Dick.
Through her long life, she has lived across Canada and the United States. Born and raised in Newfoundland, she lived in Clarenville and Hermitage, and moved to Gander where she worked for CNT as a switchboard operator, where she met her future husband Russell Davison. They parted ways when her family moved to Prince George BC in 1972, where Frank Dick took on a job with BC Railway after after retiring from CN Rail.
Only a few months later, Russell travelled to Prince George and the two were wed before he was sent to Canadian Forces Station Alert for his first six month rotation in the far north. Summer of '73 they were reunited in Gander where they started their married life together in earnest.
Over the following decades, they lived in Bermuda where their first child was laid to rest. From the sunny beaches and warm waters, they moved to the far north of Inuvik, Northwest Territories where their second child, Jane was born. Next came a few years in Ottawa, before reuniting with her parents back in Prince George as Russell left the military.
In 1977, upon rejoining the military, they moved back to Ottawa, where their third child, Joey, was born. Another posting to Inuvik followed, and in 1983 came their fourth and final child, James.
From Inuvik the family moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia 1986, then back to Gander Newfoundland in 1989. One final posting with the military saw the entire family drive across Canada for a final three years in Masset, BC, before Russell retired from the military in 1995 and moved to Spruce Grove, AB, and finally settling on the family acreage near Seba Beach.
Throughout her married life Joan worked in various customer service jobs, before she joined the team at the Spruce Grove Canadian Tire from 1996 to 2006.
Joan loved babies and meeting new people. Her hobbies included stamp collecting, reading, puzzles, knitting and trying new recipes.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first born child in Bermuda.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years Russell William Davison, their three children, Jane (Cory) Schnieder, Joey, and James; and three grandchildren, Madison, Mason, and Madden Schnieder, and her sister Judy (Bob) Byrne, Dr William Dick, as well Aunt Betty Williams and Rowena Hynes, Uncle Barry Hynes, and at least 14 cousins, numerous nieces and nephews across Canada.
At the family’s request there will be no service at this time. A celebration of life will be held at the family acreage in or around 14 June 2026, on Joan's birthday.
