MAY 22, 1953 - OCTOBER 2, 2024
With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of John Thomas Haunholter, age of 71, after a courageous journey with cancer.
John was born to Thomas and Christine Haunholter on May 22, 1953, in Peace River, Alberta. He was raised by his parents and grandparents Katharina and John Miller. After graduating from high school, John moved to Edmonton where he earned his Arts, Education and Law Degrees from the University of Alberta. He went on to build a distinguished career in law, teaching, labour negotiations and judicial arbitration. John raised his family in Spruce Grove, balancing his professional life with his commitment to his family.
Outside of work, John’s passions were many. He took great pleasure in tending to his beautiful garden and tackling projects around the house. Whether his hands were in the soil or using his tools, they were always busy, a testament to his creativity and love for his home. His love for music was another gift he shared, passing it down to his children.
John will be remembered for his kindness, compassion and sharp sense of humour, qualities that touched the lives of all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandi; his cherished children, Alyssa (Andy), Kelsey (Dave), and Graeme (Lindsay); his adored grandchildren, Addison, Aila, Jacob, and June; his brothers, George (Anita) and Ed (Lynn) and their families; his in-laws; his former wife, Susan (Bob) and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. John was predeceased by his parents and grandparents.
In keeping with John's wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held at the Bison Lodge (Old Timer's Cabin) (9430 99 Street N.W. Scona Road, Edmonton, Alberta) on Thursday, October 17, 2024. Doors Open at 2:00 P.M., program begins at 2:30 P.M. All are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory can be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, to support those facing their own journey with cancer.
The family would like extend sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and aids at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton.
