Joyce was born in Edmonton. She graduated from high school in Wetaskiwin where she began her banking career. She met and married Chuck Meyer in 1950 and they had six children. Chuck and Joyce were involved in community league activities, coaching and playing ball. Joyce was league fast ball player and bowler and had many trophies to attest to her skills. The family moved to Josephburg in 1966 and lived there for several years until a work change for Chuck had them move to Gibbons. Joyce returned to the bank once the children were in school, until she retired at the age of 55.
The family enjoyed camping and fishing and frequent weekend visits with their large extended family and friends. Joyce loved to knit and her numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, grand nieces, nephews, and friends were all cozy and warm in Granny/GG signature hooded sweaters. She also enjoyed sewing and made lovely patchwork quilts for many. Joyce was also an active volunteer in church and community organizations.
As a widow Joyce moved to Spruce Grove to live closer to family. She met Hank Wall in 2013 and they became close companions, enjoying one another’s company, playing cards/scrabble, and going for walks and outings.
A funeral service will be held in Josephburg Community Church on Wednesday, July 27th, 2016 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, Joyce requested that donations be made to local women’s or youth shelters of the donor’s choice. The family would like to thank her physician Dr. Kousonsavath, the staff and many friends at St. Michaels Supportive Living facility in Spruce Grove, and the doctors, nurses and staff at Westview Health Centre for their support and caring.
