Leona is survived by her loving family: sons Paul, Micheal (Kathleen), Jeff (Marcia), Brad (Shelley) and Stuart; grandchildren Rebecca (Blair), Jesse (Gracie), Kyle, Amy and Ryan; great grandchildren Elizabeth, Sarah, Tina, Violet and Walter; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Otto, brothers George and Harry and sister Clara (Schumacher).
Leona was born July 25, 1937 in Provost, Alberta, the first of four children to Henry and Margaret Nickel. She loved life on the family farm and often shared stories of her time there. As a young adult she received her LPN diploma and worked in care facilities in Calgary, Grande Prairie and Stony Plain.
In 1960 she married the love of her life, Otto. The couple worked on different farms around Edmonton before settling in the Hubbles Lake area to raise their five boys. They enjoyed travelling and often went to Holland to visit family. In their retirement years they sold their home and began house sitting for numerous years before finding a home base in Abbotsford where they made many great friends. With Otto’s passing in 2005 Leona returned to Edmonton to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She loved her family deeply and took great joy in spending time with her grandchildren. She took pleasure in nature, art, family and friends and will be greatly missed by all those who were blessed to have had her in their lives.
There will be a small service for the family. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the charity of your choice.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ParklandFuneralServices.com for the Wyers family.
