Richard (Dick) Parker passed away at the WestView Health Centre in Stony Plain, Alberta on October 23, 2024 with his loving wife, Susan, by his side after a long illness.
Dick is survived by his wife of 26 years, Susan; his children Matthew (Amanda) Parker, Hannah (Paul) Parker and Katie Parker of England; his step-children Andrea (Marc) Ferron and Tim Slocombe, grand-daughters Amy and Anna, sister Hilary (David) Harrison and family as well as many cherished friends in Canada, England and around the globe.
Dick was predeceased by his parents George and Mary Parker, as well as his first wife, Suzanne.
After leaving school at 15, he worked in the merchant navy aboard the RMS Queen Mary and RMS Queen Elizabeth for two years. At 17, he joined the Royal Air Force and served for 24 years, three of which were spent in Cyprus, a favourite spot. He then spent 11 years in Saudi Arabia working for British Aerospace where he met Susan. They retired to the Devon, Alberta area in 2000 where they enjoyed acreage and lake life for the past 24 years. Dick was an avid pilot of gliders and small planes from the age of 19 spending many hours with his head in the clouds. He retired from flying after 50 years in the sky.
A couple of Dick’s favourite pastimes were drawing and painting. There are lots of funny caricatures out there of folks that Dick worked with over the years as well as many lovely paintings.
Dick’s granddaughters Amy and Anna were very special to him. Many happy times were spent together baking bread, painting, drawing and general silliness.
