He is lovingly remembered by his sons: Steven of Edmonton, Robbie (Marina) of Spruce Grove; grandchildren, Brandon, Alyssa and Alisha, and a brother Howard (Letty) and sister in-law Barbra Rudy of Winnipeg. He was pre-deceased by his wife Marie, his father and mother, George and Auguste Schwartz, also his brothers Bill, Harold and Edward. As a miner, Bob (we) lived in many remote communities in Ontario and British Columbia before moving to the Stony Plain/Spruce Grove area in 1983.
Bob started his working career as an automotive apprentice before moving into millwrighting in Manitouwadge, Ontario in 1962. As a child, Bob delivered the Free Press newspaper with a rescued pigeon that rode on his shoulder either on his bicycle or in the car, and who also came when called. During the 1950’s flood, he saved a turtle and would take it for walks like a dog, as he was not allowed to have dogs or cats as pets. In his adolescence he would make deliveries, by bicycle, for a drugstore and hardware store during both summer and Winnipeg winters. In high school, he liked automotive and machine shop and was active in the Lutheran league and church. In 1964, he married the love of his life, Marie. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He took pride in the trophies he won racing boats and their 1947 Ford Coupe. After Marie’s passing, he donated his time by working in the community, assisting at a retirement home and the food bank, among others.
Bob’s kindness, fortitude, and helpfulness touched all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and remembered always.
As per Bob’s wishes of not wanting a fuss made over him, there will not be a ceremony in Alberta.
