Sandra leaves to mourn her daughter, Allison and Katie (Rick); her grandchildren, Brandon, Amanda, Zachary and Sydney; her brother, Stuart McGarvie (Christine) of Scotland; her nephew and nieces as well as many friends, both two legged and four legged.
Sandra was predeceased by her husband, Nelson in 2009; her parents, Elizabeth and Alexander McGarvie and her sister, Elizabeth Herron.
Sandra was born in Girvan, Scotland and immigrated to Canada in 1965 with her husband, Nelson. Together they raised their two daughters in Edmonton where Sandra was a dedicated Registered Nurse. After proudly achieving her BSC in Nursing from the U of A in 1979, she went to work as a public health nurse in Edmonton for the remainder of her career. In 1989 Sandra moved to the Carvel area with her husband and daughter, Katie. Sandra enjoyed creating beautiful gardens with her husband Nelson on their acreage property. During these years Sandra and family enjoyed breeding and showing Shetland Sheepdogs and Sandra was never without the companionship of a four legged friend. After Nelson’s passing in 2009, Sandra decided it was time for a change and moved to the sunny Okanagan, enjoying lake life and the milder temperatures. This past year, as her health declined, Sandra was lovingly cared for by her eldest daughter Allison, residing in the Enderby area.
A Celebration of Sandra’s Life and inurnment of her ashes will be held in March at Parkland Funeral Services, Stony Plain, AB. More information will be provided by the family in the weeks to come.
