Bud lived in his own home until 87.5 years of age. Bud leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, generosity, attitude and endless curiosity.
Born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, and raised in Saskatoon with 3 sisters, a nephew, a few cousins and many orphaned pets. Bud completed high school and business school. He was a leader and professional in office furniture sales, a supervisor and Branch Manager. He went on to kitchen cabinet sales and design and new home sales. Throughout his career, he moved the family to Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg and Spruce Grove in 1975.
Bud was a devoted Catholic and a 4th Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 17034 in Spruce Grove and Stony Plain for over 49 years. His faith was woven through kindness, service, and with friends in offices, living rooms, patios, lakes and around campfires.
Bud was predeceased by his beloved wife, Gladys, and shared life, bills, moving, parenting of kids and dogs, house parties, grandparenting, travel, gardening and music. He is survived by his four children - three sons and one daughter- who will forever cherish his mischievous, fun-loving nature, gentle guidance, and the deep care he showed in their lives. Bud is survived by his dear sister Evelyn, and brother-in-law Bob, friend Lorraine Brown, son Kevin (Laura), daughter Cheryl (Russell), son David (Paige), son Brian (Karen). Grandchildren are Jeremy, Kerry, Kyla, Colton, Becky, Lewis, Matthew and Carly. Great-grandchildren are Peyton, Peighton, Brynn, Cadence, Wren and Mallory. Bud adored his many nieces and nephews and friends. All will carry his stories, humour, and warmth forward.
Bud continued his father’s tradition of family poker tournaments. With his welcoming presence, smile, playful spirit and quick wit, he brought people together with ease. Bud won the latest tournaments he attended, hands down, and happy to take the winnings with blue eyes sparkling.
He also loved his Oilers and Elks (Eskimos) and rarely missed watching a game.
Music was woven into his life from an early age. A talented guitar player who idolized Chet Atkins, Les Paul, Johnny Cash, John Denver and all good blues, country and bluegrass artists. Music filled countless evenings and the melodies became part of the family’s soundtrack. Bud loved attending
local music festivals and neighbourhood street concerts. His music reflected who he was- creative, heartfelt, and full of life. He wrote poetry and kept his collection of Shakespeare from high school. Bud also danced at every possible occasion.
Bud won a Saskatoon- wide high school woodworking competition by creating a solid walnut side table. He continued his woodworking, carpentry, electrical, drywalling and plumbing skills into every home reno. All inspected and ticketed! He offered lessons to all kids, nephews and nieces who participated. These skills helped his kids do quick secret repairs as needed. Bud would sneak out to your vehicle and wipe your headlights and taillights clean before you drove off. Then say “drive safe” every time.
Bud will be remembered as a caring father, a loyal friend, and a man who chimed above the chaos of the world. His presence will be deeply missed, and his memories he created will continue to echo through the lives of all who knew him.
His last few years were challenging with losing independence. He did not take kindly to these changes. We express deep gratitude to ALL Health Care Professionals who cared for Bud at WestView Home Care, WestView Health Centre, Shasta Care Community, Sturgeon Community Hospital, Villa Caritas, Misericordia Community Hospital: Emergency, Units 8E, 7E, 2E, Spiritual Care and Palliative Care.
