Alberta H. Perkins, 95, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2010. Born on January 8, 1915 in North Chelmsford, MA to Homer S. Stevens and Ella Mae Harriman. She was one of 12 children and at the age of 14, left the farm with several older sisters to find work in New York City. On February 24, 1932 she married Walter Edson Perkins who passed away in 1977. In 1969, she moved to Stony Point with her daughter and family. Alberta is survived by sons, David (Joan) Perkins of Rockaway, NY, and John (nicknamed Jack) of Monticello, NY and daughter Marilyn (Jim) Duncan of Stony Point, NY. She was also the loving grandmother of Joanne Lemantia (Robert), Nancy Hansen (Vern), and David Perkins; Heather Meller (Peter) and James Duncan and his fiancee Jenn Olsen. In addition, she is survived by five great granddaughters, Marielle Lemantia, Emily Lemantia, Nicole Hansen, Sydney Meller, and Sophia Meller; sister Elizabeth Illg Grimm and brother Richard Stevens, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. She was a homemaker who loved to cook and garden, had a wonderful sense of humor, enjoyed painting, music and dancing. She especially loved children. She was the center to our family. Visiting hours on Wednesday from 2-4, 7-9 at Higgins Funeral Home in Stony Point, on Thrusday 10:00AM church service at Trinity United Methodist Church in Stony Point with burial to follow at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alberta's memory to United Hospice of Rockland, 11 Stokum Lane, New City, NY.
