Barbara Sue Eggers (née Williams), 82, of Stony Point, New York, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at NYU Langone.
Born on June 24, 1943, in Queens Village, New York, Barbara was the beloved daughter of the late J. Stewart and Ruth (Pedersen) Williams. She was also predeceased by her brother, Stewart Williams.
Raised in Douglaston, Queens, Barbara graduated from American University before beginning a life centered on family, laughter, and community. She met the love of her life, Richard F. Eggers, Jr., while
working at the Schaefer Beer Pavilion during the 1964 World’s Fair in Flushing Meadows, New York. Their love story began there, leading to their marriage on November 28, 1964, the start of a beautiful life together.
Barbara and Richard made their home in Stony Point, where they spent 57 years building a family filled with love, humor, and cherished traditions. Together they raised five children, creating a home that became the heart of countless family memories, always open to any one who needed their guidance or comfort.
Barbara worked for many years as a dedicated bookkeeper at Shaw Jobson Hardware, but her greatest work was the care she gave to those around her. A lifelong Girl Scout, she devoted more than 30 years as a troop leader in Stony Point, mentoring not only her three daughters but later her granddaughters as well. Through her leadership, kindness, and example, she left a lasting impact on generations of young women.
Barbara found joy in life’s simple and meaningful pleasures. She was an avid knitter whose loving hands created hundreds of handcrafted hats and scarves for family, friends, new babies, and even the nurses and medical staff who cared for her in her final year. She never missed an episode of Days of Our Lives throughout its historic run, enjoyed Wheel of Fortune, shopping trips, lobster dinners, chocolate treats, purple pansy flowers, sitting on the beach, and treasured the companionship of beloved family
pets—especially Molly, her cherished dog.
Known for her wit, sharp humor, and unforgettable one-liners, Barbara kept her family and caregivers smiling and on their toes until her final days. Her warmth, resilience, and spirited personality made her deeply loved by all who knew her.
Barbara’s legacy lives on through her beloved children and grandchildren: Richard Eggers and his daughters, Sophia and Cecilia, Catherine Peluso and her husband Gerard, and their children Hailey, Mia, Conner, and Luke; Barbara is also predeceased by Catherine’s first husband, Thomas Mancuso; Jennifer Enright and her husband, Charles, with their children Shane and Aidan;
Amanda Celesk and her husband, John, with their children Emma and Nora. She was predeceased by her son, Thomas Eggers who is survived by his wife Kelly O’Sullivan.
Barbara’s life was a testament to gratitude, service, humor, and generosity. She leaves behind a family strengthened by her example of enduring love. Barbara will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever celebrated. To the moon and back.
