

With deep love and sorrow, we announce the passing of Brenda Herrington Van Ness on December 11, 2025, beloved wife, daughter, sister, niece, aunt, cousin, grandma and friend. Brenda was born in Nyack, New York on June 30, 1957 to the late Ruth (Bulson) and Gene Herrington. Brenda spent her childhood years at her family home in Bear Mountain, New York enjoying the natural beauty all around, which led to her love of gardening. She cherished time spent with family and friends, yearning to hear the old stories and family lore. Her love for animals was unmatched, especially for dogs and ducks. She would often stop along the road to rescue a lost or injured animal. Among her most adored pets were Spuds, Sophia, Max, Coco, Chico, Cooper, Bear and Zachy.
Brenda married Greg Van Ness on September 6, 2003. They made their home in Monroe, New York and enjoyed traveling about the country in their motor home, meeting with friends and making new ones along the way. Brenda demonstrated a giving spirit, especially toward the children in her life. She could always be counted on to be present for their important moments and special occasions. She enjoyed going to the theater, shows and concerts, and always loved having a good time. Brenda had a business career spanning 40 years, most recently as a Clinical Research Manager for various pharmaceutical companies. She retired in 2021.
Brenda is survived by her husband, Greg, nieces Heather (Jim) Wager and Heidi DelValle and their families, Joan Skinner and family, Chrissy Skinner, Bill (Heather) Skinner and family, Amanda Skinner, Jason (Nicole) and Curtis (Noel) Van Ness and grandchildren Aviana, Jace, Declan, Noah, and many cherished family and friends.
Brenda was predeceased by her sister, Sharon Gleason in 2023 and her cousin, Bill Skinner in 2024; her father and mother-in-law, Chester and Helen Van Ness, and brother-in-law John.
Friends may visit at Higgins Funeral Home in Stony Point on Tuesday, December 16th from 3pm-7pm. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 17th at 10:30am, First United Methodist Church in Stony Point.
