Charles J. (Chuck) DeBerry, of Stony Point, passed peacefully from this world on June 2, 2012. Born on Nov. 2, 1925 in Ohiopyle,Pa. He served in the U.S.M.C. during WW II and the Korean conflict, serving with Co.G, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines. He saw action at Guadalcanal, New Britain, Cape Glouster and Peleliu where he earned the Purple Heart. He returned to Rockland County and began a long career as a member of I.B.E.W. Local #363. As a proud Marine, he was a life member of the Guadalcanal Campaign Veterans Assoc., life member and past commander of V.F.W. Post 8997, member of American Legion Post 1600 and the Marine Corps. League.
Survived by his wife of 67 yrs. Frances (Covati) DeBerry; son, Bruce DeBerry and wife Lee; daughter, Gayle Mann and husband Clarance (Butch); 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at Higgins Funeral Home in Stony Point, NY. A mass will be held on Thursday at 10am at Immaculate Conception Church, Stony Point. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Marine Corps League or United Hospice of Rockland will be appreciated.
