Christine Maria Mariani of Stony Point, NY, passed away on October 24, 2023, at the age of 76. Christine leaves an indelible impression on those who called her daughter, sister, niece, aunt, cousin, friend, teacher and mentor. Christine’s brilliant spirit, radiant smile, and compassionate heart captivated everyone who had the chance to know her. Along with her two beloved nephews, Matthew and Andrew Mariani, Christine leaves behind thousands of students that she taught at Haverstraw Middle School during her long career. She was always in the company of her treasured pet dogs,her love for them had no boundaries.
Christine was born on July 14, 1947, to Victor and Evelyn Mariani in Astoria, Queens. Christine's family moved to Stony Point where she attended Immaculate Conception School. Christine was an excellent student and an academic standout. Christine attended Albertus Magnus High School. While at Albertus Magnus, Christine developed her love of education and learning. Christine attended Saint Thomas Acquinas College graduating Magna Cum Laude with a degree in education. Christine achieved her Master’s Degree from Fordham University. She would be employed by the Haverstraw-Stony Point Board of Education as a 6th grade teacher for 32 years.
Christine's love for teaching was apparent to all around her, including students, parents, colleagues, and administrators. She truly embodied the concept of “living her job”. Her classroom themes, as well as her famous “Villa Mariani” restaurant during International Week were legendary. She was also the host of many memorable summertime gatherings and barbeques for her friends and coworkers.
At the center of Christine's life was a deep faith; she reveled in the Roman Catholic Church and lived her life accordingly. Christine was a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish her whole life, where she was a frequent volunteer.
Christine was preceded in death by her father and mother, Victor, and Evelyn Mariani. She is survived by her brother David and sister-in-law Joann, and her nephews Matthew and Andrew Mariani
Christine's passing has left an enormous hole in the lives of those who love her, but her legacy of love, service, and faith will carry on in the many lives she touched.
