Dorothy Possell Branchick, 87, died peacefully at Ramapo Manor in Suffern after her long fight with dementia, where she resided for the last three years. She lived in New City until 1988 when she retired from the Clarkstown School District and moved to Southampton, New Jersey. Formerly a member of the St. Augustine Church in New City, she was known for her devotion to family, self dependence, and fiery personality. Dotty lost two husbands - Stanley Possell in 1967 and Albert Branchick in 1998 - and is survived by her two children, Steven Possell and Barbara Ann (Possell) Hall, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Stanley was in the Coast Guard when she met him through a civilian-to-military correspondence program. They married soon after the war and settled in her hometown, the Bronx. When the neighborhood turned rougher in the early 1960s they uprooted with their children and moved upstate, to New City. After Stanley's fatal car accident, Dorothy supported the family, working at Swivelier then employed in the payroll department at Clarkstown Central Schools. Friends and family may pay respects on Sunday from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at Higgins Funeral Home in Stony Point, NY. The funeral mass is at St. Peters Church in Haverstraw on Monday at 10am. She will be buried with Stanley at the Onderdonk Rockland County Veterans Cemetery in Ramapo Township. In memory of Dorothy, please make contributions to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , her favorite charity. Dotty will be sorely missed by those who were fortunate to know her. The family wishes to thank all the staff at Ramapo Manor, including Dr. Kane, for their exceptional support and care in her last years.
