Dorothy Maefield “Mae” Farris

In loving memory of Mae Farris (nee Hunt), age 81, a lifelong resident of Stony Point. Mae passed away on August 8, 2020 at her daughter's home in Fort Montgomery NY after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Nyack, NY on September 24, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Dorothy Augusta and Hillary Ralph Hunt and sister of Alfred R. Hunt. She attended Haverstraw High School, graduating in 1956. She married her husband Henry C. Farris III “Sonny”on July 25, 1966.

She was the Assistant Treasurer of the Credit Union at Lederle Laboratories until she left to raise her children. When her kids were young, she worked part-time for the Boy Scouts of America in Stony Point and then in the Administrative offices of Helen Hayes Hospital for 26 years, finally retiring at the age of 72.

Mae's greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren, She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, kind nature and welcoming spirit. She loved to laugh. Her family was the most important thing in the world to her and she leaves behind many wonderful memories for them. She never met a stranger, just a friend she hadn't spoken to yet. There are no words to express the heartache of her loss, she will be immensely missed by all.

I first met Mae when Justin was three months old and I started picking him up once a week from their house in Haverstraw. We became fast friends and enjoyed tea and cookies over great conversations when I dropped him back home. I looked forward to those talks with Mae. She was such a loving and caring person and was so crazy about her family and was so enamored by little Justin. I would never have gotten to know Mae if it wasn’t for Missy and my grandson Justin. I will forever thank Mae for bringing them into my life. I will forever miss Mae. May she rest in peace with all the angels in heaven and may she always watch and protect her family as she looks down upon them.

With warm thoughts and remembrance,
Marianne Olive

Remembering our many, many, many nights at Brophy's,
our many fun filled vacations, her Mom putting our travels in the
Times, dancing the Twist. I loved counting you as my friend over the years and those memories will last forever.
