
James G. Faherty III (Doc), beloved husband, father, uncle, and friend, passed way at home on October 1, 2016. He was born September 8, 1934, in Flushing, NY, the son of James G. Faherty Jr. and Martha Shelly. He is survived by his adoring wife and best friend of 57 years, M. Teresa A. Faherty, son Greg Faherty, daughter-in-law Andrea, sister MaryJane Kidd, and brothers Peter (Joyce) and Fred (Marilyn). He is also survived by extended family and friends, including sister-in-law Grace Petruzzi (Frank), many nieces, nephews, and cousins, Jeannie Gannett (Michael) and family, and the ‘Gennaro’s Dinner Club.’
Jim graduated Jesuit High School in Tampa, FL, attended Notre Dame University, received his Bachelor’s from St. Bonaventure University, and earned his Doctorate in English from Fordham University. He taught English at Wells and at North Rockland High School until his retirement in 1996. He was committed to his students, whom he considered like a second family, and ran the Video Club for many years. Jim took great pride in family, and loved them all dearly. He was a die-hard fan of the Mets, Jets, and Rangers, dedicated to his Labrador Retrievers, and an avid photographer. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Visiting hours will be Thursday, October 6, 2-4pm and 7-9pm, at Higgins Funeral Home in Stony Point. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday October 7 at 10am, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Stony Point. Entombment will follow at a later date.
