Joseph S. Stanko, Sr. of Stony Point, NY passed away on Dec. 6, 2011 at his residence. Joseph has lived in Stony Point for over 80 years. He retired from West Point as an armorer. He loved the New York Giants, swimming, college football. Joseph was married to his wife, Elizabeth for 69 years. Joseph was born on October 12, 1919 in Perth Amboy, NJ to Joseph & Julia (Kiraly) Stanko. Joseph is survived by his wife, Elizabeth and his children, Patricia Gail Cornish (Joseph), Elizabeth LoPresti (Joseph), Julie Bubenko (John), Jeanne Babcock, Joanne Zayac (Thomas) and Joseph S. Stanko, Jr. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Joseph was predeceased by his sister, Margaret and brother, Steve.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9PM at Higgins Funeral Home, Stony Point, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10AM at Immaculate Conception Church, Stony Point, NY. Burial will follow in Fred Loescher Veterans Cemetery, New Hempstead, NY.
