Julie Markowitz, a resident of Nyack since 1964, left us February 26th. Born in Chicago, she lived there and in Washington D.C. and New York City before moving her family to Nyack. Mother and homemaker, she devoted much of her life to her children and community. A Den mother to Cub Scout Pack 6, and PTA mother, Julie took great pride in her involvements in the community. Julie also worked at Nyack Hospital as a Chaplain’s Assistant, and for a time at the Tappan Zee Playhouse Preservation Foundation. Actively creative and eclectic, Julie ran two antique shops in Nyack in the 1970’s. She was a talented singer, decorator and collector. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Irv, in 1986, and is survived by her sons, Dean (Carol) of Stony Point, and Perry (Kathy) of Pearl River, grandsons Liam and Dylan Markowitz, granddaughter Meredith Casey McManus (Rich) and great-granddaughter Chelsea Bria McManus of Stony Point.
Family will receive visitors on Sunday from 6 to 9 pm at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service Inc. Graveside service will be held on Monday at 11am at Oak Hill Cemetery, Nyack, NY.
