Loretta A. Griffin

Loretta Ann Griffin 82 of Stony Point NY passed away on July 10, 2025 surrounded by her adoring family. Born on February 24, 1943 in the Bronx, NY, Loretta was the beloved daughter of John and Johanna (McCarthy) Russell. Loretta grew up in a close-knit family with one sister Margaret and one brother Kevin. She graduated St. Helena’s High School in the Bronx. Loretta married the love of her life, John G. Griffin, in 1964, moving to Rockland County in 1967.

She was a registered nurse. Loretta obtained her master’s degree in

Management and Urban Development through The New School. In 2006 Loretta retired from Helen Hayes Hospital as Assistant Director of Nursing after more than 40 years of compassionate nursing. Loretta loved traveling with her husband John and their friends. Her life revolved around God, her loving family, friends and Blackie.

She is survived by her dear sister Margaret (Peggy) Russell, a proud mom to John (Jessica), Jimmy (Deidre), Peggy (Billy), Stephen, and Brian (Nicole). She was a compassionate Nana to 9 grandchildren Meghan, Stephen, Colin, Kailey, Griffin, William, Hannah,Ashley and John. A doting fur mom to Blackie. She cherished all of her cousins, nieces, nephews, other family members and lifelong friends. She was predeceased by her parents John and Johanna Russell, her husband John G. Griffin, her brother Kevin and son Stephen.

A celebration of life will be held with a viewing at Higgins Funeral Home, Rt 9w Stony Point, NY on Monday July ,14 2025. A funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday July 15, 2025 at Immaculate Conception Church, 26 John Street, Stony Point.
