

Michael Kopko of West Haverstraw passed away peacefully on February 13, 2012 at Nyack Manor Nursing Home with his family by his side at the age of 92. He was born on August 21, 1919 in Yonkers, NY to Frank and Eva (Bobak) Kopko. Michael served in the United States Air Force at the rank of Staff Sergeant at 4127th AAF Base Unit at McClellan Field, CA. Michael also was the longest living member of the American Legion, Leo Lader Post in Thiells, NY. He worked for General Motors in Tarrytown, NY until is retirement in 1984. Michael is survived by his wife Annie of West Haverstraw; his children Judy Hensley of West Virginia, Patricia (Alex) Sabo of West Virginia, Frank (AnneMarie) of Newburg, NY, Karen (Kevin) Chmielnik of New Windsor, NY, and daughter JoAnn (James) Humphrey of Monroe, NY; his 11 grandchildren Alan Ray, Sirena, AnnMarie, John, Angel, Christopher, Meghan, Thomas, Brian, Jason and Jaclyn; his 15 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Michael is predeceased by his parents, his sisters Annie Buchmaier, Helen Doyle, Kathryn Terry, Mary Kopko and his brother John. Family may receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 at Higgins Funeral Home in Stony Point, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, 10am, St. Gregory Barbarigo Church, Garnerville, NY followed by interment at Fred Loescher Cemetery, Monsey, NY.
