Korean War Veteran Robert J. Macheskie died peacefully on Tuesday, July 23rd. He was 83 years old. Robert was born in Mount Carmel, PA. He attended Samuel Gompers Vocational High School in the Bronx. After his service with the United States Army, Robert was employed as an Accounting Supervisor of General Motors. He was a devote family man and worked diligently until his retirement to provide for them. Among Robert’s family and friends, he was known for his quick wit, sense-of-humor, and infectious laugh. He enjoyed watching the New York Yankees, reading, walking, and crossword puzzles. He took a great deal of pride in his service to his country and his years working for General Motors. Robert will certainly be missed by those who knew and loved him. Robert is survived by his wife Anna, his son Robert Jr., his daughter Susan, and three sisters, Jolene Mangieri and her husband Daniel, Dorothy Halpin, June Feilen and her husband Simon, and numerous nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and his two favorite cats. Robert will be receiving family and friends on Friday, July 26th, at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home in Stony Point from 2 to 4PM and from 7 to 9PM. There will be a service for him at the same location on Saturday at 10:00AM. Burial will follow at Frederick W. Loescher Veterans Memorial Cemetery in New Hempstead.
