Robert Eugene Smith

Robert Eugene Smith, of Stony Point, NY, 92 years old, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2024. Robert was born on January 11, 1932 to Harry and Ethel Smith. He was a lifelong resident of North Rockland. He grew up in Garnerville, West Haverstraw and finally Stony Point where he lived and took care of his sister Hazel Manglass and her husband Attilio until they passed. Robert served in the United States Navy as an electrician from 1951 to 1954. He worked various construction jobs until he retired from Rockland BOCES. Robert was an ex-Chief and life member of Wayne Hose Fire Company in Stony Point. He was the longest serving member, 63 years, at the time of his death. He loved cheering for his favorite teams, the Mets baseball team and Giants football team. Robert is survived by his nephew Donald Manglass and his wife Pat, great nephew Scott Manglass and his wife Mary, and great niece Deborah E. Manglass. Robert was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Harry and Belding and his sisters Margaret, Hazel and Myrtle. Robert was loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 2-6 PM at the Higgins Funeral Home in Stony Point, NY. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 11 AM, followed by interment at Mt.Repose Cemetery in Haverstraw, NY.
