Ruth Marie Pehush

Ruth Pehush, 90, passed away January 9th, 2011. She was born Ruth Sustack on December 27th, 1920 in Bergen County, NJ. Ruth was raised and educated in Stony Point, NY. Ruth married the love of her life, Emil, on October 5th, 1946. They had four children, Helen Marie, Emil, Victoria and Joseph. Ruth was a lifetime member of the Catholic Daughters (Court Joan of Arc #604). After ten years of marriage, Ruth lost her husband, Emil, in a tragic work related accident. She went on to raise her four children by working in the restaurant business until the age of 50, when she opened her own flower shop, The Stony Point Flower Shop. She had a partner for a time but eventually became the sole owner and worked with her children, Helen Marie and Joseph. She retired when she was 78 years old but the business she started is still in the family and is run by her son, Joseph.She then moved to Orlando, Florida. Ruth loved cooking and baking, but her most joyous moments came from spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Ruth is survived by her four children, Helen Marie Sinopoli, Emil Pehush, Victoria Jastrzebski, and Joseph Pehush; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Visiting will be held on Friday, January 14 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Higgins Funeral Home in Stony Point, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10AM Saturday, January 15 at the Immaculate Conception Church, followed by burial at St. Peter's Cemetery in Haverstraw.
