Tom was born on January 31, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY to Mary and Alfred McGoldrick, one of nine children. At age 17, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served for three years in the Korean War. Upon his return to New York, he married Margaret Lynch and joined the International Union of Elevator Constructors Local 1. Tom was also a founding member of the Rockland County Friends of Autistic Children, which has since been absorbed into the Venture Foundation.
Tom retired when his beloved wife Margaret became ill. She passed away in 1995, and he has remained devoted to her in the 21 years since. In retirement, Tom remained independent into his eighties, walking laps around Peck’s Pond and doing the New York Times crossword puzzle every day. He and his wife taught their children to value family, and they did: until the time of his death, he would be visited by three or four of his children every day. To those who knew Tom, he was a true gentleman and a man of integrity.
Tom is survived by five children--Alice Ennis (Jim); Nancy McGuigan (Bill); Daniel; Margaret Varieur (Bob); and John (Michelle)--and his grand- and great-grandchildren: Traci; Will; Meaghan; Bobby; Tommy; Ava and Brady. He is predeceased by his wife Margaret, with whom he is finally reunited, his son Thomas and his eight brothers and sisters.
Visiting will be held at Higgins Funeral Home in Stony Point on Friday, August 26, from 2-4 and 7-9pm. The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10am in the funeral home, interment will follow at Fredrick Loescher Veteran's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations honoring Tom may be sent to Project: Possible: 5 Anderson Drive, Stony Point NY 10980.
