

Thomas “Tom” Vetter beloved father, brother, grandfather and friend passed away peacefully at the Joe Raso Hospice in New City, New York, on November 6, 2017, with his family by his side. Tom was born in the Bronx on April 27, 1935 to George and Grace Vetter and he graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in 1953. After marrying his beloved Kathleen (nee Shalley) on June 11, 1960, the couple resided in the Fordham Section of the Bronx before moving to Garnerville in 1970. Tom worked as an engineer for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection for twenty eight years before retiring in 1993. He was also a proud member of the New York Army National Guard serving for over twenty five years before retiring as a sergeant major in 1995. Tom remained active in retirement driving a school bus for Haverstraw Transit for more than a decade. He was a man of great faith and was active in St. Gregory Barbarigo Parish, running their annual blood drive for over ten years. Tom was a founding member of the North Rockland Social Club where he shared countless good times with his many friends. He was a lifelong avid sports fan, holding season tickets for the New York Giants for over fifty years, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family. Tom is survived by his sons, Stephen and his wife Joan of Brookfield, Connecticut, Gregory of Manhasset, New York, Timothy and his wife Christine of Stony Point and Tommy and his wife Jennifer of Randolph, New Jersey. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Stephanie, Maureen, Mark, Victoria, Michael, Jean Marie, John, Abigail, Gavin and Claire as well as his brother, Paul of Jacksonville, Florida. Tom was predeceased by his loving wife Kathy and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at Higgins Funeral Home, Stony Point, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church. Burial will follow at Ascension Cemetery in Airmont. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, St. Jude’s Way, Memphis, Tennessee in Tom’s memory.
