With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Anthony “Tony” Annese at the age of 85 on Saturday in Stuart, Florida, surrounded by his loving family. Tony was born on October 11, 1939, in Johnson City, New York, to the late Domenick and Virginia Annese. He leaves behind his brothers, Frank, Dominick and his sister, Linda.
Tony was a gifted athlete at a young age at Union-Endicott High School where he was the Captain of the Cross-Country Team, setting many course records statewide and placing 2nd at the NYS Cross Country Championships. Tony was also the Co-Captain of the Track Team where he ran the ½ mile in 1:57.7 in 1957 at the age of 17 years old on a cinder track. After graduating from Union-Endicott High School, Tony was awarded a full scholarship for Track and Cross Country at Syracuse University. His drive and dedication extended beyond athletics as he went on to serve his country proudly as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Following his military service, Tony returned to his hometown of Binghamton, New York, where he met and married the love of his life, Lori. Together they raised three wonderful sons—Tony, Jim, and Joe.
Tony had a prestigious career history working at IBM as a Mechanical Engineer, EF Hutton as a Stockbroker, and his final career at George Industries, Inc. as a General Plant Manager. He had a lifelong passion for cars but enjoyed most his 1963 Corvette Split-Window Coupe. Tony LOVED playing Poker with family and friends, Cousin Frank and an unprecedented 19-year weekly Friday Night game with the “Docs”.
After retiring at age 57 and the passing of his wife of 35 years, Lori, in 1997, Tony moved to Stuart, Florida, where he met Quin, his wonderful life partner. They traveled the world together and spent many Sundays with Quin’s family, the King Sisters weekly gathering.
Tony was predeceased by his wife of 35 years, Lori, in 1997. He leaves behind his wonderful life partner Quin, his 3 sons, Tony, of St Petersburg, FL, Jim, of Binghamton, NY and Joe and wife Alyssa, of Hobe Sound, FL. His legacy continues through his 2 beautiful grandchildren, Mick and Livia. Tony will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his kind and generous spirit, and his infectious smile. He touched countless lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family would especially like to thank all the wonderful staff at Cleveland Clinic North Stuart for their loving care.
Tony will be laid to rest with Lori at Calvary Cemetery in Johnson City, New York.
