OUR DAD Tuesday, my brothers called, Dad had passed away. Tears. Together we called to tell Mom. More tears, but also relief. His suffering was over. But there was a terrible ache in all our souls over the loss of a man who blazed a path in life full of joy, hope and a family legacy few men ever match. That night, I awoke in the dark, aching, thinking, and praying. God spoke to my spirit so clearly, “You are all with the living!” Yes! That is it. I knew the Bible verse, but suddenly it was alive and fresh in my heart. Here on earth, we are with the living; and up in heaven, Dad is also with the living in God’s kingdom. You see, to those who bow their knee to the Most High God, this is the hope, this is the promise, to be with the living, to be with Him forever. And so, our family are all with the living! Dad was born January 25, 1933. After 88 years, on Tuesday evening October 5, 2021, he left the living here to go be with the living in God’s Kingdom. Dad was a vet from the Korean War.
He spent much of his working career in the defense industry. But it is his life and family stories that are so full of life. He has a best friend in his wife Marcia, and together they raised four boys, Bruce, Mark, Gary, and Daniel. Dad lived by example. He loved his wife with abandon for 63 years, and so he taught us how to love our wives, He taught us to love God and showed us God was alive and awesome, and that God invited us to join Him in a great adventure. He showed us how to work hard with integrity. He helped others and showed us how to love regardless of race, station in life, or other useless measure. To Dad all men and women are created equal by God. And so, Dad loved all those God brought into his life, he showed us how to love others. He spent meaningful time with the family. We camped. We worked. We laughed. We celebrated. We served. And camped some more. He taught us to fix endless projects, whether at our home or for someone else. He prepared us for life.
“Dad, you were and are the best! We love you and miss you. Our hearts ache but we hold great hope and can’t wait to see you again among the living!” Bruce F. Prevost
