Curtis Andrew Dieffenbaugher

Curt married the love of his life, Jean, on July 2, 1977. Together they built a life filled with family, friendship, faith, service and countless memories. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Curt graduated from Mount Union College in 1977, where he played football, was a proud brother in the Sigma Nu fraternity and participated in the university’s theater program. His years there reflected many of the things that would remain part of who he was throughout his life-his love of sports, his ability to make people laugh, his friendships, and his willingness to be involved.

Professionally Curt spent 30 years as an underwriter in the life insurance industry and as a financial planner. He later found a second career at BallenIsles Country Club, where he first worked as a starter and later in the golf shop. Golf was one of his favorite sports, and he loved the friendships and connections he made along the way.

Curt and Jean lived in Sterling Heights, Michigan for 28 years prior to making their way through Wisconsin and Minnesota before settling into retirement and calling Florida home.

Throughout his life, Curt believed in giving back to his community. While living in Sterling Heights, he was deeply involved in schools and served as President of the Warren Consolidated School Board of Education from 1993-1997. He was also a longtime and loyal member of Lutheran Church of the Master in Troy where he generously gave his time as a deacon and sang in the choir. In Florida, he continued his love of music and service by singing in the choir at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church in Juno Beach. He also served for many years as the treasurer of the Duckwood Homeowners Association.

Curt loved watching sports – especially golf and football – but nothing compared to watching his grandchildren. Whether it was baseball, basketball, volleyball, bowling, dance, or whatever activity they were involved in, Curt was cheering them on. His grandchildren were a tremendous source of pride and joy, and being their PaPa was one of his greatest blessings in life.

Curt was known for his sense of humor and a laugh that you simply couldn’t forget. He had a way of bringing light into a room and leaving people with a story or a smile. But perhaps what many people didn’t know about Curt was just how generous he was. He quietly gave to many organizations and causes throughout his life, never seeking recognition or acclaim. Helping others was simply something he believed in doing.

Curt is survived by his wife, Jean; his children Tim (Kelly) and Michelle (Jason); and his beloved grandchildren, Hollie, Luke, Jada and Gianna. He is also survived by his brothers Don and Dale and his sister, Nancy.

He was preceded in death by his father, Don Dieffenbaugher, his mother Phyllis Robinson; his stepfather, Jay Robinson; and his mother-in-law Dorothy Fizet.

Curt leaves behind a lifetime of laughter, love, service, music, friendship and memories. He was not one for pomp or circumstance or grand events, but the family will host a celebration of life to honor his memory at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church located at 13301 Ellison Wilson Rd., Juno Beach, FL 33408.
